Product Designer

Job description

Timber is looking for our first full-time designer to help build incredible tools for developers and software teams. Your goal will be to translate customer insights into clean, consistent, and crisp interfaces that inspire delight and productivity.


More about you

Our ideal candidate for this role should have a background in design, experience working with engineering teams, and a history of bringing well-crafted designs to production. You appreciate a good design system and are happy to jump between Sketch, Illustrator and some HTML/CSS when needed. You understand the difference between a design that looks good on dribbble and one that is effective in the real-world. You like to learn, and have no problem breaking down complex solutions into easy to understand interfaces that look and feel great.

At Timber we care deeply about design, it’s at the core of everything we do from our interfaces to our command line software (CLIs). As an early member of the team, you’ll have a profound impact on how that design thinking translates into real world products that developers love. You’ll work closely with our product and engineering teams to help us excite, involve and delight customers. You’ll get to experiment with cutting edge design systems and hone your skills with a tight-knit, fast-paced team.


Key responsibilities

  • Spec out and design interfaces for Timber’s core products

  • Conduct interviews with new and existing customers to distill feedback

  • Monitor usability and flows with tools like FullStory, Heap and Segment

  • Map customer journeys across Timber’s features and products

  • Work collaboratively with our engineering team to ensure the success of new features

  • Iteratively design & validate assumptions with user testing and other research

  • Raise the bar for the Timber experience, and ensure that everything ships with a consistent brand, design, copy, and overall UX

  • 2-3 years experience as a UI, UX or Product Designer

  • Experience working with developers and engineering teams

  • A portfolio of real-world, clean and thoughtful work

  • A proven track record for solving difficult UX design problems

  • Familiarity with modern design tools like Sketch and Illustrator

  • Experience with prototyping tools like Invision, Framer or Figma

  • A basic understanding of HTML & CSS

  • Excellent writing and communication skills
